- Are any beds facing a mirror?
A mirror in your bedroom directly facing the bed is said to bring yin energies and I would say this is more psychology than anything else. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and seeing yourself in the mirror. This might cause constant stress to your subconscious brain.
Take a minute to check all the bedrooms and cover all the mirrors when not in use.
- Are any beds facing the door?
A bed directly facing the door is said to obstruct your sleeping mode and flow. The energies go directly through your door, hit your bed, and therefore disturb the resting energies. This might cause constant headaches, as well as foot and muscle pain.
Take a minute to examine your beds and ensure they are not directly facing the door. We will examine this further in a later chapter on Bedroom Feng Shui.
- Is a washroom facing the bed?
A washroom facing the bed is said to invite the sewage energies into your sleep. Imagine sleeping for eight hours or more and constantly receiving such bad energies! That will certainly affect your health.
We will see the solution to this problem in our chapter on Bedroom Feng Shui.
- Are any electrical appliances in the bedroom (e.g., a big screen TV)?
Electrical appliances induce excessive fire or Yang energies. Your place to sleep and rest does not require too much Yang energy. Again, we will specifically deal with this one in Bedroom Feng Shui later on. For now, take a minute to examine all the electrical appliances in your bedrooms and make a checklist.
- Are there any structures above the bed that might cause bad health?
Anything above you while you are asleep puts strain and stress on your body and mind. Avoid such settings and you will find your night’s sleep is peaceful and rejuvenating.
Take a minute to figure out why an adult will not fall off from the upper bunk of a bunk bed. The answer is simple: because your subconscious mind will ‘instruct’ your body not to fall off. Similarly, when something is above your head your subconscious mind is working very hard to ‘guard’ you from something falling down towards you and is therefore putting strain on your mind as well as body. Make sense? The ancient wisdom is in line with modern science.
- What kind of pets, if any, is in the house?
Pets are good if they are in your favor. If your favorable element is Wood, you can have a cat in your house; if your favorable element is Fire, you can have dog as a pet; if your favorable element is Water, you can have mice as pets; if your favorable element is Metal, you can have birds as pets. Please refer to my first book, Improve Your quality of Life through the Power of Feng Shui, to find out what element you favor.
Take a minute to surf my website (www.misterfengshui.com) to find out all the elements associated with pets.
- Birds (Red): Fortune
The ancient red bird has similar features to a peacock, with a crest on the head and feathers around the tail. The symbol this ancient red bird represents is the front of a house, the south direction, and gossips. During the Han Dynasty, this bird was one of the primary four spiritual creatures before it evolved into the phoenix in the Tang Dynasty. Today the red bird symbol represents happiness and fortune and one can place it in an auspicious area (refer to the ‘Period 8 best house setting’ in my first book mentioned previously).
Birds are Metal, in accordance with the 5-Elements theory, and if your favorable element is Metal then you should use this creature more often. If you were born between May 5 and August 8, one of your favorable elements is Metal, besides Water. My book, Improve the Quality of Your Life with the Power of Feng Shui, describes in detail a person’s favorable and unfavorable elements.
– Goat (or, Deer, in the west): Good luck and wealth
Goats are said to bring in more wealth that is traditional and will improve your quality of life. Goat is a Dry Earth element in accordance with the 5-Elements theory. This mild Fire (Dry Earth) is essential good for those who require the Fire element in their life pillars, especially those with lots of Water elements. It is not hard to comprehend if you understand the basic 5-Element theory.
Take a minute to self-study the creative cycle of the 5-Elements: Water produces Wood, Wood created Fire, Fire created Earth, Earth produces Metal and, because Metal creates water, the cycle continues as Water feeds Wood!
- Dragon: Strength and authority
This mythical animal attracts wealth and prestige. In the old days, peasants were prohibited to use dragon symbolism in any form as it was reserved for the emperor as his symbol of status. Dragon is the sign of the emperor in ancient Chinese. However, dragon is one of the wet Earth elements that are contrary to goat. If your favorable element is Water, then dragon is the answer, as dragon also serves as Water Storage that keeps producing water. Dragons have been termed the “King of the Ocean”! Nevertheless, dragons also serve as divine and prestigious symbols for Chinese and it is an extremely auspicious sign.
Take a minute to draw a picture of a dragon and paste it to your wall at work or in your study room. Your confidence level will elevate immediately!
